For years auto appearance training for paint touch-up has been the same: Air-brush or Squeegee paint-in the chip and clean off the excess. The finish - well, that is not important - "just hide the chip" - not the greatest method, but it served the purpose. Most of the paint came out in the first few washes. But that's OK, because there was no better way!
